What Exactly Comes With A Furnished Home?

Jesse Obrien

An exciting part of moving to a furnished home is that you don't have to move in any large furniture, which is one of the hardest parts of moving to a new place. You'll step in and have a convenient and comfortable living space already arranged for you. Here are some of the furniture items you'll expect to have waiting for you in homes that range from semi-furnished to fully furnished.

Living Room

The living room is the heart of the home, with plenty of items that you need to make the room functional. Semi-furnished living rooms will include a couch and loveseat as a staple, as well as a recliner or individual seating. Expect end tables with lamps, since living rooms don't typically have overhead lighting that you can flip on with a switch. While a TV is not always included unless it is fully furnished, you may have furniture ready to place a new TV for you.

Dining Area

Your dining room should have a dining room table that fits the space of the home, with enough chairs to seat your family and guests when they come over at a bare minimum. More furnished dining rooms will include artwork to fill in the walls of the space, with maybe even a sideboard or cabinet for china. A fully furnished dining room will have the tablecloths that you need for the table, as well as appropriate place settings that fit the theme of the room.

Bedroom

A bed and dresser are essential items that you'll have in your home, with you needing to supply all the sheets, pillow, and other linens that you need. Homes that are more fully furnished will have more bedroom pieces that are not essential to the space, such as a nightstand and lamp. When you have fully furnished bedroom, you'll get all the little details that make up the space, such as the matching linens that fit the theme of the room.

Kitchen

A kitchen is a bit different in a furnished home, since the major appliances are standard no matter what. The things that you'll be looking for are the essentials that you would have to buy on your own. This includes small appliances that go on the countertops, like a toaster or coffee maker, but can also include pots and pans that you need for cooking. Fully furnished spaces will includes all the plates, glasses, and utensils you need to live comfortably.

About Me
Basics of Property Management: Screening Potential Tenants

For the last several years, I've used a property management firm to help with my rental properties. One of the tasks that they handle for me is screening applicants who would like to move into one of my vacant units. Their expertise has helped me lower my tenant turnover and find people who want to stay with me for years. Part of the process is a tenant screening credit check. Before any further contact takes place, my manager orders credit reports from at least two agencies. That is enough to tell us if an applicant is a good financial risk. Assuming the references work out, I meet the candidate and make the final decision. If you own rental properties, let me tell you more about the benefits of having a property manager. I'm betting you'll find this type of arrangement will work for you too.
