One of the most important things to some people is reducing the risks of falls and accidents. This can be a major concern for people with small children, an elderly household member, or a household member who has mobility issues. A single-story home doesn't have stairs, and that can be a major relief. 

A single-story home also allows for kids or even active adults to run through the house or exercise without bothering other family members with the sounds of their footsteps. 

There won't be the need for an additional bathroom in a single-story home because there won't be stairs to go up and down in order to get to any of the bathrooms, and this can be nice, especially when you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. 

A single-story home can have some nice additional features. A couple of examples of such features would be things like vaulted ceilings or skylights.
