4 Reasons You're Having A Hard Time Selling Your Home

Jesse Obrien

When it comes to selling your home, you most likely want to get it off the market quickly. This way, you can be sure that you can move on to your new home, which is especially important if you have life changes that are going to require you to move fairly quickly, such as being pregnant, moving for a job change, and more. If you are concerned that your home isn't selling quickly, here are four reasons that may be:

  1. You Haven't Been Packing: If you leave your home fairly cluttered, it's going to be more difficult to sell it. This is because a cluttered home can turn off potential buyers. Your best bet is to pack away everything that you don't need to use for the next 6 months. You can pack it in the garage or other storage space in your home. However, the best thing to do would be to utilize a storage facility. This way, potential buyers can see a completely clutter-free space, which gives them a better idea of how large the home really is and how much storage space there is in the place.
  2. You Haven't Hired Cleaners: Even small stains and small patches of dirt can turn off potential buyers. This is because when a potential buyer sees a problem, no matter how slight, it makes them wonder what other problems there may be with the home. It's best to hire cleaners who can thoroughly clean your home to make everything appear as if it is brand new.
  3. You Don't Have a Realtor Putting on the Showings: It's best not to show your home yourself. The reason for this is that it can make potential buyers uncomfortable, especially since they are going to want to discuss some of the flaws of the home with their partner or their own realtor. If a potential buyer wants to schedule a tour, have your realtor available and take the family out of the home for a while.
  4. You Have Curtains and Blinds: The best way to open up the space in your home is to take down the curtains and blinds. This brings in light to the space, which makes your home appear larger than it really is.

When you know these four reasons your home may not be selling quickly, you can see what changes you need to make that can definitely help speed up the process.

About Me
Basics of Property Management: Screening Potential Tenants

For the last several years, I've used a property management firm to help with my rental properties. One of the tasks that they handle for me is screening applicants who would like to move into one of my vacant units. Their expertise has helped me lower my tenant turnover and find people who want to stay with me for years. Part of the process is a tenant screening credit check. Before any further contact takes place, my manager orders credit reports from at least two agencies. That is enough to tell us if an applicant is a good financial risk. Assuming the references work out, I meet the candidate and make the final decision. If you own rental properties, let me tell you more about the benefits of having a property manager. I'm betting you'll find this type of arrangement will work for you too.
