Want To Buy A Home That Promotes Good Fitness? Look For The Right Qualities

Jesse Obrien

Most people looking to become a homeowner make a long list of their wants and needs, which generally involve bedrooms, bathrooms, floor types, and the size of the kitchen. But, there are some qualities that get passed up without much thought at all, such as what your property does for your fitness level. It is certainly possible to find yourself with a home that promotes a more sedentary lifestyle. So, if you are looking to buy a forever home and want to stay fit for the rest of your life, you should make it a priority.

Strategic Location

Biking is an excellent method of exercising, but you may not find yourself doing it much recreationally. A great alternative is to look for properties that are within 10 miles of your work, which is what most cyclists are willing to commute going one way on a consistent basis. Cycling for an hour at a moderate speed can burn anywhere from 472 to 745 calories, which gets added to your naturally burned calories.

It is also beneficial to look for homes that are close to an elementary school, middle school, and high school. Being this close will allow your kids to walk to school quickly. On days when you are not working, you can even tag along with them on their walk to school to pick up some exercise. Some other things to consider are houses near lakes, parks, or anywhere with paved walking trails.

Large Backyard

If you get a property with a large backyard, you will have plenty of room for outdoor activities. You will not need to head to the nearest park to play a game, as you can get one going right in your own backyard. Some great ideas that can provide you with some exercise include horseshoes, hop scotch, and catch. It is even possible to go on a nighttime run in your own backyard if you do not feel safe on the streets.

Multi-Story

Just going up and down stairs throughout the day will help you burn calories, but that is not the only thing that multi-story homes are good for when it comes to staying in shape. Some workouts rely on stairs to provide you with a high-intensity and strenuous workout, which you can get right in your own home.

Although you will want to consider more features than just the things that relate to fitness when you look at homes, you should not underestimate how much having these qualities can help you stay healthy. Click here to learn more about houses for sale in your area.

About Me
Basics of Property Management: Screening Potential Tenants

For the last several years, I've used a property management firm to help with my rental properties. One of the tasks that they handle for me is screening applicants who would like to move into one of my vacant units. Their expertise has helped me lower my tenant turnover and find people who want to stay with me for years. Part of the process is a tenant screening credit check. Before any further contact takes place, my manager orders credit reports from at least two agencies. That is enough to tell us if an applicant is a good financial risk. Assuming the references work out, I meet the candidate and make the final decision. If you own rental properties, let me tell you more about the benefits of having a property manager. I'm betting you'll find this type of arrangement will work for you too.
