Why The Outside Of Your Business Is As Important As The Inside

Jesse Obrien

Without good curb appeal, it's hard for your business to be appealing to people. In a choice between restaurants, one that looks clean and one that looks run down, you're going to pick the cleaner establishment. The sad part is that the interior belonging to the sad looking exterior might be stunning and the food amazing. . Here are a few ways to make your business more attractive to someone walking or driving by.

Cleanliness

As you've seen above, dirt and grime is a turn off. Take the time to go outside every day and pick up the trash, even if it technically isn't on your property. A passerby isn't going to know where your property stops and the city takes over, and they aren't going to care either.

Clean the windows regularly. Your best bet may be to hire a commercial cleaning company to come on a set schedule to clean the outside while you and your employees spot clean in between. If a prospective customer can see other people inside enjoying food or shopping in comfort they are more likely to join them.

Get the grime off your building, door, and sidewalk. Start with a good pressure wash to get rid of that stuck on gum, mold and moss-covered from brick and siding, and the smoky, greasy film on the front door. Once you have it looking the way you want it, regular maintenance can help you keep it that way.

Signage

People are not going to walk in to find out what your business is all about. They need to know what they are getting into before they take the time to park their car and walk to the door. A great sign can make all the difference. Make sure it's visible from the road and adequately defines what your business is.

If your company name doesn't tell the story, add some words. For example, if your business is a consignment apparel outlet, and the name is Smith's, if all you have on the sign is "Smith's," people are going to keep driving. If it reads "Smith's Quality Clothes on Consignment," potential clients are going to know exactly what to expect.

Translate this idea into signage on your door, windows, and on the sidewalk as well. This communicates to people walking by and improves your foot traffic.

With the right curb appeal that's clean and informative, your business has a better chance of drawing in new customers. Once you get them in the door, dazzle them with outstanding products and stellar customer service to keep them coming back. For more help, contact a company like A Blast To the Past.

About Me
Basics of Property Management: Screening Potential Tenants

For the last several years, I've used a property management firm to help with my rental properties. One of the tasks that they handle for me is screening applicants who would like to move into one of my vacant units. Their expertise has helped me lower my tenant turnover and find people who want to stay with me for years. Part of the process is a tenant screening credit check. Before any further contact takes place, my manager orders credit reports from at least two agencies. That is enough to tell us if an applicant is a good financial risk. Assuming the references work out, I meet the candidate and make the final decision. If you own rental properties, let me tell you more about the benefits of having a property manager. I'm betting you'll find this type of arrangement will work for you too.
